Kenya Festival at Cortina-Toblach-Run

Over 3.300 participants took part in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Sunday. They had to travel 30 kilometers on the old railway line to Dobbiaco.

Immediately after the start, five African runners and the Moroccan-born Italian Ahmed Nasef broke away from the group. After a few kilometers, Kenyans Paul Tiongik, Julius Rono and James Murithi Mburugu increased the pace.

Shortly after the Dürrensee, Rono also lost connection. Tiongik and Mburugu were neck-and-neck until the 26th kilometer before Tiongik was able to pull away from his compatriot at Lake Toblach.

The Kenyan crossed the finish line alone at the Grand Hotel in Dobbiaco and won in 1:35.27 hours. The course record, set last year by Henry Kimani Mukuria (1:34.18), was just over a minute away.

Second place went to Murithi Mburugu, 1.07 minutes behind, and third place went to Julius Kipngetich Rono. The best “Azzurro” was Ahmed Nasef in 4th place, the fastest local runner Stefan Mair crossed the finish line in 18.05st place, 21 minutes behind the winner. Local hero Fabian Fronthaler, Roland Vigl from the South Tyrolean Running Club and Armin Varesco from Neumarkt came 25th, 26th and 33rd respectively.

In the women's race, the two Kenyans Lenah Jerotich and Caroline Cherono set the pace from the start. In the end, Jerotich won in 1:52.12 hours, exactly one minute ahead of her compatriot Caroline Cherono. Agnes Tschurtschenthaler also climbed onto the podium. Kenya Festival at Cortina-Toblach-Run

The Kenyan Paul Tiongik won the 19th edition of the Cortina-Toblach-Run on Sunday in 1:35.27 hours. His compatriot Lenah Jerotich won the women's competition. The best South Tyrolean was Agnes Tschurtschenthaler from Sexten, who came in a strong third.
