Kenya Festival at the Cortina-Toblach-Run

Almost 3.700 participants took part in Cortina d'Ampezzo today. They had to travel 30 kilometers on the old railway line to Dobbiaco. Immediately after the start, five African runners (three Kenyans and two from Rwanda) broke away from the group. After just a few kilometers, no runners could keep up with the Kenyans Henry Mukuria, Julius Rono and Joel Melly. Then Mukuria increased the pace and finally broke away from his competitors. The Kenyan reached the finish line at the Grand Hotel in Dobbiaco alone and won in a record time of 1:34.18 hours. The previous record, set in 2015 by Jean Baptiste Simukeka, was 1:34.37. Second place went to Julius Rono, 19 seconds behind, third place went to Joel Melly. The best “Azzurro” was Neka Crippa, sixth, the fastest local runner Fabian Fronthaler (Athletic Club 2000 Toblach) came in 28th, 22.02 minutes behind the winner. Patrick Oberlechner from the Pustertal Running Club came 1th in 57.25:30 hours.

In the women's race, Kenyan Pauline Eapan celebrated a start-to-finish victory. She won in 1:52.39 hours, 19 seconds ahead of her compatriot Ruth Chelangat Wakabu. Italian Catherine Bertone also climbed onto the podium, third in 1:54.15. 7th place went to Doris Weissteiner from SG Eisacktal with a time of 2:05.51.

Kenya Festival at the Cortina-Toblach-Run

The Kenyan Henry Kimani Mukuria won the 18th edition of the Cortina-Toblach-Run with the new best time of 1:34.18 hours. His compatriot Pauline Eapan won the women's competition. The best South Tyroleans were Doris Weissteiner from SG Eisacktal, seventh, and local hero Fabian Fronthaler, 28th.
