Khalid Jbari wins the thrilling Bozen City Trail

On the slightly modified, 30 kilometer long route with 800 meters of altitude, Khalid Jbari won a thrilling duel against last year's winner Hannes Rungger, while women's winner Irene Senfter celebrated a start-to-finish success. A total of 150 mountain runners were registered for the three routes. In addition to the original distance, the 16 kilometer long Bozen City Run and the non-competitive Bozen City Enjoy (6 km) were also offered.

This year's Bozen City Trail was unbeatable in terms of excitement. At least in the men's competition, in which Khalid Jbari from Bolzano (Athletic Club 96 Alperia) and Hannes Rungger from Sarnen from the sports team fought a bitter fight. While Jbari gained a lead on the flat sections, Rungger caught up with his competitor on the climbs. It was only shortly before the finish that Jbari made the decisive attack and won the second edition of the Bolzano Trail Run in 1:51.12 hours. Rungger reached the finish in second place, 12 seconds behind.

“I am very happy with how the race went. It's my first win after a break after a meniscus injury. The head-to-head race with Hannes Rungger was very strenuous. I found it particularly difficult on the climbs because I'm not really used to them. For me, the Bozen City Trail was good preparation for the marathon in Turin, which I will be taking part in this year,” said Jbari at the finish. Jens Kramer from Steinegg also made it onto the podium (2:06.43), but he starts for the Sarn running friends. Behind him were Alex Tormena (2:07.25) and Domenico Nicolazzo from the sports team (2:09.53).

Irene Senfter, however, triumphed among the women. The athlete from the South Tyrol Team Club ran alone for more than half of the race high above the rooftops of Bolzano. Already on the first climb of the Guntschna Promenade, the Lananer broke away from Gertraud Tasser, who later came in second place. “I felt very comfortable on this route, which I know well from many training runs. It was clear to me that as a trail runner I would attack uphill. The conditions were ideal for running,” explained Senfter, who reached the finish in 2:30.22. Almost five minutes later, Tasser reached the finish (2:35.12). Micol Testini took third place (3:07.42).

Cesaro and Vasselai win City Run There was also a hard fight for the day's victory on the shorter distance of the Bozen City Run (16 km/400 meters in altitude). Here Andrea Cesaro from Trentino from the Trentino Running Team won the competition with a winning time of 1:07.34 hours. Around a minute later, Andreas Vieider from ASV Steinegg reached the finish, while Jürgen Wieser from the Soltnflitzer from Jenesien was happy about third place. Meanwhile, Barbara Vasselai from Sarnen won the women's competition. Last year's third-place finisher completed the Bozen City Run in 1:20.53. Elena Givanni (1:29.38) and Irene Trombetta (1:29.45) climbed onto the podium next to her at the award ceremony.

The third alternative was the non-competitive Bozen City Enjoy. Here the participants were able to explore the most beautiful corners of Bolzano by running or walking. Along the six kilometer route there were frequent refreshment points where local specialties could be tasted. An offer that was very well received by recreational athletes.
