Kipchoge sensationally beaten - Kitata wins London Marathon

London (SID) Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge (35) was sensationally beaten again in a marathon after seven years. The running superstar and top favorite from Kenya only finished eighth in the ghost race in London and had no chance against the winner Shura Kitata from Ethiopia. After a finish sprint in adverse conditions, Kitata beat Vincent Kipchumba by one second after 2:05:41 hours. Sisay Lemma from Ethiopia came third in 2:05:45 hours. Kipchoge had to give up a good four kilometers from the finish and completely unexpectedly suffered his second defeat in a marathon race. The world record holder was last beaten by his compatriot Wilson Kipsang in Berlin in 2013. In London, Kipchoge crossed the finish line 1:08 minutes behind winner Kitata. The German record holder Arne Gabius also missed his target in the rain and cold. The 39-year-old finished 22nd in 2:14:25, above the Olympic standard of 2:11:30.
