Maddalene Sky Marathon on August 21st

Registrations for the Maddalene Sky Marathon, which is part of the Italian U-23 Championship and also serves as a classification for the regional skyrunning champion, are in full swing ten days before the start. Over 200 athletes have registered for the two mountain races, which take participants on the challenging “Bonacossa” high-altitude hiking trail from Our Lady in the Forest on Deutschnonsberg to Rumo in the Non Valley. The mountain marathon distance involves covering a distance of 45 km and an altitude of almost 3.000 meters. The shorter Maddalene Mountain Race trail is 25 kilometers and an altitude difference of 1.500 meters to the finish.

Some top athletes have already registered for the Maddalene Sky Marathon. The favorites include Haflinger Andreas Reiterer (Telmekom Team), winner of the partner run at the South Tyrol Sky Marathon a few weeks ago, and Andrea Stanchina, who comes from Val di Sole. Simone Wegher from Trentino, winner of the short run last year, is taking part in the long distance this year and will most likely also be at the top. Last year's winner Daniele Cappelletti (Team Valetudo) will not be taking part due to injury.

For the women, the race is still completely open. Local hero Lorenza Bortoluzzi would like to climb to the highest podium of the winner's podium for the second time since 2013. The 35-year-old from Trentino is not in top shape, but she took third place at the South Tyrol Sky Marathon two weeks ago. The start of Silvia Rampazzo (Team Valetudo), who set the new course record last year, is also uncertain.

Who will win the combination ranking?

Bortoluzzi and Reiterer are also the top favorites in the combination ranking. The athlete with the fastest overall time at the South Tyrol Sky Marathon and Maddalene Sky Marathon will receive a non-cash prize. In addition, the team with the strongest representation will be awarded and prizes will be raffled off among the participants who took part in both mountain runs.

“As far as registrations are concerned, we are satisfied with the current status of a total of 220 participants from five different nations for both races. Everything is going according to plan and experience shows that many runners will only register in the next few days. One or two top runners, such as record winner Fulvio Dapit, could decide to take part at short notice. Silvia Rampazzo will also only decide whether she will take part in the next few days,” explains OK boss Sandro Martinelli.

Maddalene Sky Marathon on August 21st

In just over a week, on Sunday August 21st, the eighth edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon (44,5 km/2.905 meters altitude) will take place. The SkyMarathon starts at 7 a.m., while the shorter trail run Maddalene Mountain Race will start two hours later.
