Mair and Kessler win the 11th Brixen Dolomites Marathon

In terms of sport, the Brixen Dolomites Marathon began punctually at 7.30 a.m. in perfect running conditions with the starting signal at Brixen Cathedral. Martin Griesser from Mauls and Helmuth Mair (Milland) soon broke away from the rest of the field and were the first to pass the “Talblick”. Behind them were Marco Menegardi (Province of Brescia), the Austrian Theo Lothode and Chris Walther from Allgäu.

In Afers, after around 19,2 kilometers, Mair arrived as the sole leader. Nothing should change until we reach the finish line. The 51-year-old was announced as the winner of the 11.20th Brixen Dolomites Marathon shortly after 11:42,195 a.m. Mair covered the 2450 kilometers with 3 meters of altitude in his tenth participation in 50.41:8.45 hours. After a furious comeback, second place was shared by Benjamin Eisendle and Martin Griesser, who reached the finish on the Plose at the same time, 100 minutes behind Mair. Fourth place went to Ludwig Andres from Vinschger, while the multiple Italian champion over XNUMX km Menegardi had to settle for fifth place. Start-to-finish victory for Julia Kessler In the women's race, Julia Kessler celebrated a start-to-finish victory. While the 28-year-old from Meran was half a minute ahead of Edeltraud Thaler (Lana) in St. Andrä after about a quarter of the route, in Afers she was already 3.12 minutes ahead of Susanne Zahlauer from Zachenberg in Bavaria, who had overtaken Thaler on this section of the route. At the finish, Kessler's lead had grown to over 14 minutes, finishing in 4:25.58 hours. The Brixen Dolomites Marathon could also be tackled by relay teams of two or four. The fastest team of two were the “D'Schuchi Buam”. Simon and Hannes Schuchardt reached the finish after 4:11.36 hours. The best four-man relay team, “Die Seitenstecher”, consisted of Aaron Messner, David Seeber, Matthias Portner and Patrick Lanziner, who completed the marathon distance in 4:05.16 hours. This time Rabensteiner and Favretto are at the front of the Dolomites UltraTrail In addition to the classic marathon route, the organizers also offered the Dolomites UltraTrail. The top favorites, Alexander Rabensteiner/Ivan Favretto, prevailed here. They covered just over 71 kilometers with around 4000 meters of elevation gain in 8:32.47 hours. Rabensteiner also won the premiere of the Dolomites Ultra Trail alongside Jimmy Pellegrini in 2019. Matteo Pigoni/Gianluca Galeati came second on Saturday, 40.22 minutes behind, while Marco De Salvador/Luca Ambrosini took third place (9:15.38).

Luca Pescolldung from Val Badia won the LadiniaTrail (29 km/1852 meters altitude D+) in 2:40.51 hours. Trentino's Francesco Baldessari (2:55.28) and Toni Steiner from Laas (2:56.42) completed the podium on this route, which led from St. Martin in Thurn to the Plose. In the women's race, victory went to an athlete from the Czech Republic: Veronika Siebeltova reached the finish after 3:27.38 hours, two minutes ahead of Christine Griessmair from Prettau. Priska Gasser from SG Eisacktal placed third.

However, the Funes Dolomites Run was held for the very first time. Luca Clara (ASV Gherdeina Runners) was the quickest to cover the 22 kilometers with 385 meters of ascent but a rapid 1070 meters of descent from St. Magdalena to Brixen in 1:26.30 hours. Behind them, Christian Lang (St. Sigmund/1:29.07) and the Villnöß local hero Maximilian Profanter (1:36.29) landed in the honorary positions. Among the participating athletes, Vivien Senn from Latzfons prevailed (1:52.06), relegating rider Verena Lamprecht (1:57.16) and Natalie Mitterrutzner (Brixen/2:04.24) to places.

But all of that was overshadowed when it became known in the afternoon that a 62-year-old local participant had suffered a heart attack during the race and died.
