Martin Stofner and Petra Pircher win the 21st Stettiner Cup

Right from the start in the parking lot in Pfelders, Martin Stofner from Reinswald im Sarntal and the young Mareiter Armin Larch, as well as a little behind Stofner's compatriot Henry Hofer and Gerd Frick from Meran, fought a thrilling four-way battle. On the climb to the Stettiner Hut, Stofner still had a few reserves of strength, then shifted up a gear and won the mountain run in 1:01.47 hours. “I wanted to shake off Armin (Larch, editor's note) in the flat. I didn't succeed. He could no longer follow me on the steep slopes, even though Henry got closer and closer. But the projection was big enough. It was my big goal to win the Stettiner Cup one day. “I did it today,” beamed the 33-year-old at the finish line.

His Sarner compatriot Henry Hofer was only 17 seconds slower than Stofner. The 40-year-old from Reinswald passed Armin Larch, who was almost half his age, on the steep terrain. The 21-year-old from Mareit reached the finish after 1:02.48 hours and, in third place on the day, relegated Gerd Frick and Trentino's Tarcisio Linardi to the honorary positions of the 21st Szczecin Cup. “Unfortunately I couldn't quite keep up with Martin (Stofner, editor's note) on the flats and I couldn't make up for this deficit afterwards. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with the time,” said Hofer at the finish. For Larch, third place came as a complete surprise: “I wouldn’t have expected this result because the race was full of top-class competitors. I’m even more pleased about this podium place.” Pircher celebrates hat trick There were also very strong participants in the women's category. Petra Pircher won here in 1:16.10. The woman from Lasa ran exactly half a minute faster than in her triumph last year. For Pircher it was already the third victory in a row at the Stettiner Cup. “I just enjoy coming to my friends in the Passeier Valley. The race is very well organized, the route is beautiful and if you win on top of that, then you can only be satisfied,” beamed the Vinschger native, who recently became a grandmother and for this reason also doesn’t take part in as many races anymore . Edeltraud Thaler from Lana was happy about second place. The record winner of the Passeir running event, which Thaler won five times, crossed the finish line after 1:19.08 hours. “Last weekend I ran a mountain marathon. Nevertheless, I had enough strength today, which is probably also due to the fact that I changed my training a little. “I don’t run as much during the week anymore,” said Thaler. Irene Senfter (Lana/1:21.39) completed the podium. “I haven't competed in a few years now and I have to say that I'm absolutely thrilled. The panorama here at the finish with a blue sky is fantastic. I wouldn’t have expected third place before the start,” said Senfter.
