Masters regional championship title awarded in Meran

The most successful club in the spa town was the South Tyrol Team Club. He came out on top in the team rankings for both women and men with 12.365 and 12.401 points respectively, clearly ahead of the local heroes SC Meran and the Trento club Quercia Rovereto. The South Tyrol Team Club athletes won 12 of the 16 individual titles awarded for women and 8 for men. SC Meran also showed a strong performance with 10 titles won.

Renate Prast from the South Tyrol Team Club won the 100 m in a good 14.68 seconds. Her teammate Elisabeth Moser also made people sit up and take notice in the 1500 m run. She won in 5:19.22 minutes. Waltraud Egger also achieved top results in the 3000 m (14:01.47), Ingeborg Zorzi in the high jump (1.17) and Erika Niedermayr in the 200 m hurdles (34.47 seconds).

In the men's category, 60-year-old Hubert Indra from Lana achieved an impressive 1.56 m in the high jump. Silvano Giavara also put in a good performance. The long jumper from SC Meran won with 3.97 m.

Among the 24 teams that qualified for the national final in Montecassino in mid-September are the two South Tyrolean teams, the Südtirol Team Club and SC Meran. The men qualified as 13th and 21st teams respectively, the women as 11th and 24th.
