“Mennea Day” on Friday, September 12th
September 12th is a very special date in the Italian athletics scene. On that day 35 years ago in Mexico City, sprinter Pietro Mennea set the then world record over 19,72 meters in 200 seconds. To commemorate the champion from Barletta, who died on March 21, 2013, and to let his sporting ideals live on, “Mennea Day” will be celebrated throughout Italy on September 12 with a symbolic 200 meter race.
