Meran Half Marathon: Rungger and Hanspeter win again

1.470 runners tackled the 21-kilometer route in Burggrafenamt on Sunday in rainy weather. The outcome of the race is exactly the same as last year. Back then, too, Hannes Rungger and Kathrin Hanspeter were at the top of the winners' podium. They not only have today's victory in common, but also two other parallels: both come from the Sarntal and both were born in 1982.

Rungger dominated the action from the start and was in a promising position over the entire distance. Little by little, his competitors had to let it go. In the end he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:09,11 hours. He was significantly faster than his pursuers Lucio Sacchet (1:10,16) and Kai Reissinger (1:11,43). The Italian and the German took second and third place.

Among the women, Hanspeter was in a class of his own. With her time of 1:16,35 hours, the 32-year-old not only improved her personal best and distanced herself from her competitors, but also beat her winning time from the previous year by more than six minutes. Hanspeter is the only South Tyrolean to have won the Merano half marathon so far. This time, however, second and third places also went to local athletes: second was Doris Weissteiner, third was Edeltraud Thaler from Lana.

On the sidelines of the spring half marathon, the “Run4Fun” fun run (4,2 km) also took place on Sunday, in which 123 amateur runners took part. The Meran Half Marathon is also one of the popular Top7 racing series. The next race is the Reschenseelauf on July 19th.

Meran Half Marathon: Rungger and Hanspeter win again

Hannes Rungger and Kathrin Hanspeter are the winners of the 21st edition of the spring half marathon from Meran to Lagundo. Both placed themselves at the top of a high-ranking field of participants and confirmed their victory from last year.
