Merano women are crowned Italian mountain running champions

With 96 points, the spa town team clearly prevailed ahead of Bellunoatletica and Atletica Valle Brembana (both 74). Sofia Demetz and Anna Hofer from Val Gardena stopped the time measurement in 26.36 minutes and were almost two minutes ahead of Chiara Pedol and Lucia Arnoldo at the finish. The second duo from Merano, Laura Obkircher and Emma Ghirardello Pichler, had to settle for 7th place. In the U18 category, coach Hans Ladurner's team won runner-up title. Lisa Kerschbaumer from Tramin and Emily Vucemillo achieved a joint time of 39.05 minutes. In the end, the Merano women were 1.18 minutes behind Lia Nardon and mountain running ace Luna Giovanetti from Atletica Valle di Cembra. Laura Segor and Axelle Vicari (40.01) from Polisportiva Sant'Orso Aosta came third. In the team ranking, SC Meran placed third. In the men's race, however, Samuel Demetz and Silas Demez started for the Gherdeina Runners. The Val Gardena duo came in 36.49th place in 8 minutes, the victory went to Simone Giolitti and Elia Mattio from Podistica Valle Varaita in 33.07 minutes. Merano women are crowned Italian mountain running champions

The U16 and U18 Relay Italian Mountain Running Championships took place at the weekend in Malonno in the province of Brescia. The girls from the Merano sports club were able to defend the “Scudetto” from the previous year in the U16 age categories.
