With a wedding dress at the Reschenseelauf: A crazy wedding

Without a doubt: Lake Reschen is one of the biggest eye-catchers in South Tyrol. The church tower that rises out of the lake is both mystical and fascinating - and therefore one of the most popular photo motifs in this country. This fantastic backdrop is also the setting for the Reschenseelauf every year, during which thousands of amateur athletes can enjoy this panorama. And as if this run wasn't special enough on its own, this year there's an absolute curiosity added to it.

When the more than 2000 runners start the race in Graun next Saturday, some participants will probably look puzzled. A man in an elegant suit and a woman in a wedding dress will also mix among the athletes with classic sports equipment. Your goal: Start as an unmarried couple and finish as husband and wife. Met and loved while running Thomas Wenning and Claudia Weber, 54 and 59 years old, both from North Rhine-Westphalia, both crazy about running, want to achieve this memorable feat. “We met while running 17 years ago, then we learned to love each other while running - and now we want to say yes to each other while running too” - the joy before the big day can be heard in Thomas Wenning's every word , than him s+ reached by phone.

But many people are probably asking themselves the question: How do you want to get married during a race? “Claudia and I will start with the first group at 16 p.m. and after 200 meters turn left to the municipal office. We will be married there by Mayor Franz Prieth. We set ourselves a limit of ten to 15 minutes. We'll say 'yes', kiss and then rush back to the running track,” said Wenning, who had already planned everything out in detail. 15 kilometers in a wedding dress and suit The two will start the race in classic wedding outfits - just with running shoes instead of classic suits and elegant bridal heels. “Because after the wedding we'll go back to the route with the wedding dresses, where we'll run the 15 kilometers around the lake. So I hope it's not too hot and it doesn't rain. But it’s not a dream concert,” says the passionate runner from Germany.

A wedding during an official running event – this has never happened before in South Tyrol and probably in Europe. “You can do that at the Las Vegas Marathon,” says Wenning, “but otherwise it’s difficult. Especially because the registry offices are not open on Saturday evening or Sunday.” So why was the Reschenseelauf chosen for this special day? “Many parameters have to fit. The registry office has to be nearby and open, the organizer and the community have to play along,” explains the 54-year-old, who emphasizes: “In Graun, the suggestion was immediately received with enthusiasm. That's why we decided on the Reschensee run. By the way, this will be the first time we take part in it.” Not the first crazy action Before Pentecost, the couple were already in Vinschgau to plan the event. This is also important for the celebration party: “Between 15 and 20 invited guests come to Lake Reschen. They will be there at the registry office and then welcome us at the finish.” The celebration will then take place at the Hotel Traube Post in Graun.

One thing is clear: it takes a healthy dose of crazy to accomplish such an undertaking. Thomas Wenning and Claudia Weber are known for their extraordinary adventures. Together they have taken part in events all over the world. And: In 2006, the two secured an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Thomas ran 717 kilometers on the treadmill in seven days, while his soon-to-be wife Claudia managed 636 kilometers in the same time - both world records. Anyone who lives this way for their sport truly deserves a wedding that is just as fitting.
