With a wedding dress and running shoes – the 21st Reschenseelauf was a success

Claudia Weber and Thomas Wenning tied the knot. After running over 100.000 kilometers together and using more than 150 pairs of running shoes as well as completing more than 300 marathons or longer distances, the couple said “I do” during the Reschenseelauf in Graun am Reschenpass (South Tyrol). Starting in the first block among more than 2.000 participants, after 500 m both ran directly to the registry office of the municipality of Graun and were officially married by Mayor Franz Prieth in accordance with Italian law.

Immediately afterwards, they went back on the 15,3 km long running route around South Tyrol's largest lake, before they reached the finish line married right in front of the historic church tower, the region's landmark. This has never happened before at an official running event in Europe. At the start as an unmarried couple and at the finish as a married couple. Running route in a unique landscape On July 17, 2021, the sunken church tower in the lake once again welcomed more than 2.000 runners, walkers and athletes from over 15 nations. The small town of Graun on the Reschen Pass (450 inhabitants), in the border triangle of Italy - Austria - Switzerland, was all about running.

The running route around the largest lake in South Tyrol has a unique landscape. Immediately after the start, the runner has a unique view of King Ortler with its glacier massif, before he can enjoy the unique landscape of the Upper Vinschgau on the way back to Graun. The sunken church tower as a landmark The church tower in Graun, with its start and finish, is the focal point of this competition day. A huge starting area with direct parking nearby and a large EXPO area with many stalls adorned the green zone of Graun this year despite Corona. The organizer attached great importance to the safety measures and designed the start and finish area accordingly. Over 2.000 enthusiastic runners took part in the race.

Soffientini Andrea wins the men’s race – Ghidini Mara wins the women’s race Over 2.000 finishers completed the 15,3 km long circumnavigation of the lake and the children also enjoyed running around the sunken church tower in the lake.

Ghidini Mara took first place among the women with a time of 0:57:29, followed by Cibei Margherita and Leuprecht Lisa. Soffientini Andrea took first place among the men with a time of 0:48:18, followed by Ploner Markus and Lanziner Peter. The women's and men's winners were awarded a medal made of Lasa marble. The organizers are already looking forward to the 22nd edition of the Reschenseelauf on July 16, 2022 and are hoping for numerous runners and spectators again.
