Oberbacher and Pircher win the first run of the Saslong Half Marathon

The victories in the premiere edition went to Alex Oberbacher and Petra Pircher. In the best weather conditions, bright sunshine and in front of a unique panorama, the two of them were unstoppable. The run led past the most beautiful peaks in the Dolomite group, past refuges and through an area that is particularly popular with alpinists.

Oberbacher, after all the U23 world champion in the vertical run, was in the lead from the start. Nobody could keep up with the Val Gardena. At first Daniele Felicetti tried to follow him. However, he soon realized that Oberbacher's pace was too high. The victory went confidently to the local hero, who himself comes from Ortisei in Val Gardena. Felicetti and Gröder Georg Piazza completed the podium.

“I broke away on the second climb” Oberbacher's arrival at the finish line on Monte Pana after 1:38.50 hours was accompanied by many spectators. “It went well and just as I imagined,” said the victorious Oberbacher happily. “Right from the start I tried to keep the first group in check. On the second climb I increased the pace and was able to pull away. Then I ran my rhythm and it happened as it did,” said Oberbacher. Nordic combined athlete Lukas Runggaldier also took part in the race. The man from Val Gardena took 19th place. Petra Pircher runs away from everyone For the women, the race was dedicated to Petra Pircher's “escape” from Lasa in Vinschgau. She was able to break away from her rivals early on and won in 1:57.44 hours with a lead of more than three minutes. Sandra Stuefer and Edeltraud Thaler completed the podium.

“I was at the front right from the start. The race was very tough, but the panorama was beautiful. I wasn't at all confident of victory because the others are also very strong. I’m extremely happy,” said Pircher.

OC boss Manuela Perathoner was also satisfied: “It was a great success. This time we had to limit the number of participants to 400 runners. Next year we will allow more starters.
