“Palio della Quercia” with Cavalleri, Agreiter and Kirchler

The women's 400 m hurdles went to third place at the World Championships in London, Ristananna Tracey from Jamaica in 54.58 seconds, more than one ahead of her compatriot Janieve Russell (55.48). The experienced Italian Marzia Caravelli came third (56.09 seconds). Valentina Cavalleri from San Candido, who competes for the army sports group, took 58.76th place in 6 seconds, ahead of her training colleague from SSV Bruneck, Caren Agreiter (59.82).

The bronze medal winner at the World Championships in London, Mason Finley from the USA, also won the men's discus throw with a good 64.77 m. The Estonian Gerd Kanter, world champion in 2007 and Olympic champion in 2008, came second with 62.41 m, just ahead of the Upper Austrian Lukas Weisshaidinger (62.26 m). As the best “Azzurro”, 39-year-old Hannes Kirchler from Meran finished the competition in 58.26th place with 7 m. Kirchler started with one failed attempt, then threw 56.24 m and in the third attempt 58.26 m. After another failed attempt he reached 56.26 m and in the last throw 57.24 m.

In the men's 400 m race, which the Briton Dwayne Cowan won in 45.63 seconds, Brayan Lopez from the Bolzano club Athletic Club 96 took 8th place with 50.56 seconds.

The first-class international athletics meeting “Palio della Quercia” took place on Tuesday evening in Rovereto for the 53rd time. The Puster hurdlers Valentina Cavalleri and Caren Agreiter as well as the Merano discus thrower Hannes Kirchler were also there.
