Pedro Mamu and Renate Rungger win the Drei Zinnen Alpine Run

The conditions today were ideal for a mountain run. Sunshine at the start, it was a little cooler on the route and at the finish. The race was dominated from the start by world champion Petro Mamu and his compatriot Youssef Tekle. After the first climb at the end of the valley hut, the two top athletes from Eritrea already had a one-minute lead over New Zealander Jonathan Wyatt. The gap between top German runners Timo Zeiler and Korbinian Schönberger and the “Azzurri” Roland Clara, Emanuele Manzi and Thomas Niederegger was even greater. On the climb to the Zsigmondyhütte, favorite Mamu finally broke away from his teammate, behind him Wyatt and the two South Tyroleans Thomas Niederegger and Roland Clara fought for a place on the podium.

At the Büllelejochhütte the winning trio emerged: Petro Mamu was already five minutes ahead of Jonathan Wyatt and another two minutes ahead of Niederegger. Roland Clara and Emanuele Manzi followed behind. Petro Mamu then crossed the finish line in 1:22.44 hours, the second best time in the history of the Three Peaks Run. Second place went to multiple world champion and course record holder Jonathan Wyatt (in 2011 he won in a record time of 1:19.58). Third place went to Thomas Niederegger, ahead of Roland Clara and Emanuele Manzi.

After 15 years, another South Tyrolean victory among the women 15 years after the first and only South Tyrolean women's victory at the Drei Zinnen Alpine Run (biathlete Nathalie Santer won in 1998), Renate Rungger made it onto the winner's podium this year. The top runner from Sarnthein, who was accompanied on the course by her father Albert, impressively confirmed her role as favorite. She immediately broke away from the Italian junior mountain running champion Sara Bottarelli. The two leaders then extended their lead over their pursuers Emmie Collinge, Edeltraud Thaler and the Austrian Susanne Mair to almost five minutes on the final climb. Rungger ultimately won clearly ahead of Bottarelli.

Mini Three Peaks Run The Mini Drei Zinnen Alpine Run took place on Saturday. It was the 9th edition of this run, in which around 220 young athletes up to the age of 16 took part. Among the many winners, the success of Lukas Lanzinger from Sesto in the Junior E category and Sara Cattaruzza in the Junior D category should be mentioned.

The winners' voices: Renate Rungger: The race was wonderful again, especially since I was able to run to the finish with my father. I lost a minute or two in the downhill sections, but was able to make up for it.

Sarah Bottarelli: I am very happy about second place. Renate Rungger was simply too strong today and definitely deserved the win. The route was very demanding, mentally I was in shape, unfortunately my legs weren't working so well, but I'm still very happy.

Emmie Collinge: Today was my first mountain run ever, so far I've only done flat races. Therefore I am very satisfied with my result. The panorama was incredible, very impressive, and unforgettable. I'll definitely come back.

Petru Mamu: A very special race, beautiful and very demanding. I really liked the route, it is quite different from that of the Dolomiten Man. I think I'll definitely come back.

Jonathan Wyatt: As always, a great race. I am very satisfied with my performance and was able to move up from 3rd to 2nd place. The organization and the route were again optimal.

Thomas Niederegger: In this race you simply have to be able to do everything, from steep climbs and some downhill sections, it's all there. But above all, this run is very impressive in terms of landscape.
