Rabensteiner and Casaro win in Oberwielenbach

Oberwielenbach was the venue for the traditional village run for the 23rd time. A total of 375 athletes took part in very good weather conditions. Since the race in Pustertal is also part of the East Tyrolean Raiffeisen Runners' Cup, there were also some runners from East Tyrol among the participants.

In the men's field, Alexander Rabensteiner from SG Eisacktal triumphed, completing the 6.600 meter long circuit in a good 25.31 minutes. Alex Holtz from Meran came in second place, 24 seconds behind. Daniel Oberlechner from Puster completed the podium with a time of 26.43 minutes.

Elena Casaro was unbeatable in the women's competition. The runner from Toblach, who came second last year, covered the distance of 3.950 meters in 17.11 minutes and relegated Manuela Reichegger from Jenesien to second place by an impressive 1.17 minutes. Barbara Vasselai from Sarnen took third place in 18.20 minutes.

The victory in the team ranking went to the host club ASC Oberwielenbach. The Pusterers prevailed with 1425 points ahead of ASC Laas (1373) and LF Laatsch/Taufers (1128). The VSS village and city running series will continue in just over two weeks, on May 19th, in Schluderns.

The second of ten races in the 2018 VSS village and city running series took place in Oberwielenbach on Tuesday. Ultra-long-distance specialist Alexander Rabensteiner and Elena Casaro from Toblach took the day's victories.
