Regional championship: Athletic Club 96 Bozen wins eight titles

The two-day regional championship took place this year in Rovereto and Lana. Athletic Club 96 Bozen celebrated four victories on the opening day in Rovereto with Manfred Menz in the pole vault, Daniel Compagno in the discus, the 400 m runner Isalbet Juarez and the triple jumper Fabio Buscella. On the second day of competition in Lana, another four gold medals came with Abdessalam Machmach in the 800m (1:55.69 minutes), the former military world champion Marco Dodoni in the shot put (15.77 m), Michele Ongarato in the hammer throw and the 4x400m relay.

Two new national records Ongarato and the relay team also set two new state records. The 39-year-old hammer thrower from Padua won with 59.28 m and improved his teammate Davide Comunello's national record from 2006 (56.76 m) by over two meters. The 4x400m relay with Abdessalam Machmach, Marco Palmieri, Ruben Cola and Isalbet Juarez beat the 3-year-old national record of LGS Raiffeisen (Armin Mantinger, Reinhold Agstner, Reinhard Zschorn and Christian Dissertori) by 18.23 hundredths in 38:59 minutes.

Gold for Stofner, Ploner and Schiffregger Three more regional championship titles went to South Tyrolean athletes in Lana: Elisabeth Stofner, Markus Ploner and Thomas Schiffregger. The 27-year-old Sterzinger from Vipiteno, who has been competing for Quercia Rovereto since 2009, won the discus throw with a good 42.92 m. Like Stofner, Markus Ploner also defended his title from last year and won the 5000 m in 14:48.32 minutes. In the long jump, Bruneck's U18 Italian champion Thomas Schiffregger won with 6.66 m ahead of Pierluigi Putzu from Bolzano (6.46 m) and Martin Unterweger from Meran (6.32 m). Julia Viktoria Calliari (2nd in 25.10 seconds) and Caren Agreiter (3rd in 25.40) also climbed onto the podium in the women's 200 m run in Lana. Both set a new personal best. Lisa Seppi took silver in the long jump with 5.44 m, as did the shot putter Karl Telser (15.13 m) and the 800 m runner Hannes Schiffregger (1:57.23). In the women's 800 m race, Verena Stefani from Vipiteno won bronze in 2:19.55 minutes.
