Reschenseelauf: Kocourek wins thanks to home advantage – all results

"I'm first, he's second," the eventual winner Milan Kocourek from the Czech Republic grandly announced to OK boss Gerald Burger before the race. He meant himself and his compatriot Jiri Homolac. At least when it comes to announcing victory, Kocourek was right. The Czech took the lead right at the start of the 15,3 km long race around Lake Reschen. At km 4 there were only three of them left: the two Czechs and last year's winner Peter Lanziner. He had also announced victory, but he had no chance against Kocourek. After about 5 km, Kocoourek left Homolac and then Lanziner standing on the dam. “I thought I would face him on the difficult climb at km 10, but it turned out exactly the opposite,” says Lanziner. Kocourek, who came 12th at the European Cross Country Championships last year and was a multiple Czech champion, made a real storm. In summer temperatures, he beat the previous course record by 50 (!) seconds. The 26-year-old won in 48:17 minutes. Lanziner followed, 1:21 minutes behind, but was faster than when he won last year and was at least able to thwart the prediction that Kocourek had made before the race. Homolac had to settle for third place, just ahead of the second best South Tyrolean, Hannes Rungger from Sarn.

For Kocourek it was actually a home race. Since 2005, the Czech has been coming to Melag in Langtaufers for training up to three times a year. He has acclimatized here very well for three weeks. "I ran the route once or twice a day. I now know every bend and every little incline on this route. I took it pretty easy for the first 5 km because I knew that I would be strong on the inclines would."

Raatz surprisingly defeats Renate Rungger While Kocourek's victory was not surprising, no one expected Simone Raatz in the women's race. Not even she herself, as the 37-year-old from Karlsruhe admitted during the winner's interview. "Fortunately, I didn't know the route. I ran in fourth place for a long time. At km 9 I noticed that I could catch up with the leader Renate Rungger. At km 11 I passed her and after that I kept having him again The cyclist accompanying me asked how far behind she was because I was completely flat." Raatz won in 58:15 and beat record winner Renate Rungger by 33 seconds. The top favorite saw the race with one crying and one laughing eye. "After the efforts of the last few weeks, I was simply empty," said the European team mountain running champion. "But this run with this backdrop is still wonderful. With Kathrin Hanspeter (+ 0.59), another woman from Sarnen reached the podium. Last year's winner Sandra Urach from Austria had to settle for fifth place. A sign of how busy the Reschenseelauf was this year.

Of course, OK boss Gerald Burger was also happy about this. "We had nice weather, a strong field of participants, a new course record and no accidents. We also had 3687 registered participants, of which 3185 finally started. 10.000 visitors once again made the Reschenseelauf a celebration. It's just a shame that this time no South Tyrolean won. My greatest thanks go to the 700 volunteers who made this race possible." Next year the Reschenseelauf will take place on July 19th. The Top7 running series continues on August 24th with the Raiffeisen 3/4 half marathon from Bruneck to Sand in Taufers.
