Roe and Mills lead in Lana

Multistars is a two-day invitation meeting for the strongest heptathletes and decathletes in the world. The first edition of this meeting took place in 1988, 33 years ago. Since 1998, Multistars has been officially classified as an IAAF meeting. Up to and including 2012 it took place in the province of Brescia, mostly in Desenzano del Garda, but also in Brescia and Salò. From 2013 to 2018 the meeting was held in Florence, and in 2019 it came to South Tyrol for the first time, to the Lana athletics stadium. After the event had to be canceled last year due to corona, this weekend the international event will take place under strict security measures.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, only Linda Maria Pircher from Burgstall is taking part. The 19-year-old from SV Lana is currently in 16th place after four disciplines with 2.841 points. Gertrud Bacher's athlete was particularly impressive in the 100 m hurdles and high jump, where she even achieved two new records in 15.58 seconds and 1.62 m respectively. Pircher's record in the heptathlon is 4.648 points.

In the women's heptathlon, Holly Mills, the big surprise from the first day of competition in Lana, is at the top. The young Brit scored a strong 3.839 points, particularly in the 100 m hurdles (13.21) and the high jump (1.83) where she shone with 1.094 and 1.016 points. Marthe Koala from Burkina Faso is 112 points behind Mills. The Irishwoman and one of the hot title candidates, Kate O'Connor, is in third place with 3.666 points. Fourth is the 20-year-old Spaniard Maria Vicente (3.665), fifth is the strong American Chari Hawkins (3.638). The second Italian next to Pircher, Sveva Gerevini, is in 3.359th position with 13 points.

For the men, Martin Roe is at the top at halftime. The Norwegian, one of the top favorites to win the overall, leads with a strong 4.153 points, closely followed by the Spaniard Jorge Urena (4.110) and the “Azzurro” Dario Dester (4.054) in second and third place. Benjamin Hougardy from Belgium is fourth after five disciplines with 2 points, one point behind top Czech athlete Adam Helcelet in fifth place. Jan Dolezal from the Czech Republic, the winner in Lana two years ago, currently only has to settle for 3th place with 4.037 points.

On Sunday the men's 110 m hurdles, the discus, pole and javelin throw as well as the 1500 m are on the program. The women's events include the long jump, javelin throw and the 800 m. It starts in Lana at 10.00 a.m.

Roe and Mills lead in Lana

Day 1 of the international all-around meeting Multistars, which will take place in Lana this weekend, is history. At halftime, Norway's Martin Roe is in the lead in the men's decathlon, while Britain's Holly Mills is in the lead in the women's heptathlon.
