Rungger demands everything from Abate

Hannes Rungger had his problems with mountain runs this year, but on the up and down course on Salten, the man from Sarn was completely in his element. The 30-year-old ran a courageous race. Rungger always had visual contact with Gabriele Abate. "That was a really strong race, today it went wonderfully. It was only on the last downhill section to the finish that I finally had to let Abate go," said Rungger happily.

The man from Sarn was significantly faster than when he won last year. And winner Abate also paid respect to the South Tyrolean. "I didn't expect this strong resistance," said the 33-year-old tournament, who won the 12th edition after 21,1 km and 520 m in 1:13:59. "I got to know unique scenery here in South Tyrol. "It was unique here in the middle of the larch meadows and the Haflinger horses," said Abate. Two weeks ago, the Turin native was the best Italian in fifth place at the Mountain Running World Championships. In South Tyrol this year he had already triumphed at the Seiser Alm Running and the Drei Zinnen Alpine Run. Third place went to Emanuele Manzi, the 2009 winner. Edi Lahner crossed the finish line in a good fourth place, ahead of six-time world champion Jonathan Wyatt.

Renate Rungger confident women's winner

In the women's race, Renate Rungger's victory was never in danger. The 33-year-old from Sarnen crossed the finish line in 13:1:29 three weeks after her 49th place at the Mountain Running World Championships. A good three minutes behind was Mirella Bergamo from Trentino, who came second like last year. Third place went to Andrea Schweigkofler from SC Meran. The fastest relay this time was the duo Alexander Höller/Johannes Fink from the South Tyrolean Running Club in a time of 1:24:04. Abate won the Mila intermediate sprint at km 7 ahead of Rungger and Wyatt.

At the award ceremony, the winners beamed with OC boss Sepp Rungaldier. The winners were happy about 500 euros. Rungaldier was particularly pleased about the class line-up at the Soltn mountain half marathon and the new participant record. Almost 350 runners (including relay teams) took part in ideal running weather. The Top7 series ends on October 28th with the Half Marathon of the Three Municipalities from Leifers to Branzoll.
