Salami and Casaro win potato race

Najibe Marco Salami (Army Sports Group) and his national team colleague Francesco Bona (Air Force) are currently completing a training camp in the Pustertal. On Saturday they tested their current form under competition conditions as part of the 20th “Erdäpfellauf”. The two “Azzurri” fully lived up to their role as favorites. From the finish, the duo dominated the action. In the end, Salami completed the 17,6 kilometer route in 55.47 minutes, setting a new record. The 33-year-old from Mantua was one second faster than Said Boudalia nine years ago. Bona crossed the finish line in Sand in Taufers in second place this Saturday, 15 seconds behind. “That was a real battle with Francesco. We have really great training conditions here in the Pustertal and I really enjoyed the race despite the heat. Our next competition is the Italian Championships over 10 kilometers in Alberobello in Apulia,” said Salami at the finish.

The podium was completed by Markus Ploner from Vipiteno, a South Tyrolean. The 37-year-old from Wipptal also stayed under an hour in 58.56 minutes.

Home win for women In the women's race, the day's victory went to Elena Casaro from Dobbiaco, who prevailed with a time of 1:10.39 hours. “I felt really bad during the race, but my legs were running smoothly. At kilometer 11 I caught up with Petra (Pircher, editor's note), after that I just tried to keep my rhythm,” explained the 47-year-old.

In addition to Casaro, Kathrin Hanspeter from Sarnen and Petra Pircher from Laas took the podium.
