Sarner victories at the 18th Soltn Mountain Half Marathon

After the starting signal in the Jenesien sports zone, Hannes Rungger (athlete team) took the lead after just a few kilometers, leaving all the competition behind. The 36-year-old from Sarner then ran a lonely race at the front and won the 18th Soltn Mountain Half Marathon with a time of 1:19.08 hours.

For Rungger it was already the third success in the half marathon “classic” on Tschögglberg, making him the record winner among men.

Fatherly joys and sporting successes “Despite being behind on training, I felt excellent. I became a father for the second time a month ago and if things are going well for you in life, good results in sports come naturally too. In any case, it is always nice to run here in this great landscape. What do I plan to do next? I will start the Athlete Night Run and the Bozen City Trail and then do a half marathon in the fall,” said Rungger at the finish.

Andreas Reiterer (La Sportiva/Telmekom Team) from Avelengo took second place with a time of 1:21.53 hours. “Hannes (Rungger) is simply two classes better than me on the flats. But otherwise I ran a very good race and was more than satisfied,” said Reiterer, who relegated Gianmarco Bazzoni to third place. The man from Bolzano from Atletic Club 96 Alperia covered the 21,1 kilometers with around 500 meters of elevation gain in 1:23.39 and was not entirely satisfied with his performance: “I definitely want to win this race once and I will try again next year – for as long as possible until I achieve victory. The route itself is beautiful.” Kathrin Hanspeter ignites the turbo in Langfenn In the women's race, favorites Kathrin Hanspeter (Sarnthein/ASC Lauffreunde Sarntal) and Petra Pircher (Laas/ASV Rennerclub Vinschgau) ran in the lead and stayed together until Langfenn. On the downhill section, Hanspeter increased the pace and crossed the finish line as the winner after 1:32.03 hours.

“I didn't really know where I stood and so I let Petra set the pace. In Langfenn I saw an opportunity to set myself apart and I took advantage of it. I managed my strength really well today and am very satisfied,” said the 36-year-old from Sarnen, who won the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon for the second time after 2014.

Pircher, who came third in the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run a week ago, stayed under the 1:32.50 mark she had set in 1:33 hours. “The Three Peaks Run is still a little bit in my bones. I kept up the climbs very well today, but running downhill is just not my thing. Nevertheless, I am absolutely happy with my performance,” summed up the 47-year-old, who had celebrated the day’s victory in Jenesien for the past two years.

The podium was completed by Simonetta Menestrina from Trentino (Atletica Trentino/1:35.05), who was taking part in the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon for the first time. “My colleague Loretta Bettin always raved to me about this race and persuaded me to take part. And she really didn’t promise me too much,” said Menestrina, praising the Soltnflitzer organizers at the finish. Holtz and Andersag cannot be beaten over 10 kilometers The SoltnRun celebrated a successful premiere with a route length of 10 kilometers. Here, Alex Holtz (Fullsport Meran) won in the men's race ahead of Cristian Fois (Toscana Atletica Futura) and Johann Mair (South Tyrol Running Club). Among the women, Natalie Andersag (ASC Berg) was ahead. The 26-year-old from Kardaun relegated Verena Pratzner (Telmekom Team) and Manuela Reichegger (ASV Jenesien Raiffeisen) to their places. Organizers satisfied “The 18th Soltn Berghalmarathon can confidently be considered a success. We had perfect running conditions and worthy winners. But all participants who have plucked up the courage to take part today and have made it to the finish line can feel like this. Everything went well organizationally, which is why I would like to take the opportunity to thank our many volunteers and sponsors. Without them, a race like the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon would not be possible. I'm also very happy that the 10-kilometer run was so well received. It is not technically difficult at all and the length of the route can be managed by any reasonably trained athlete. I think that we can expand the SoltnRun even further in the next few years,” said OK boss Hansjörg Prugg in conclusion.

The 7 Top2018 running series continued on Sunday with the sixth and penultimate stage, the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon. Sarner Hannes Rungger and Kathrin Hanspeter prevailed on the 21,1 kilometer long course.
