Swedish prodigy with pole vault world record

The 20-year-old European pole vault champion Armand Duplantis jumped 6,17 m in his second attempt on Saturday evening at the World Indoor Meeting in Torun, Poland, improving Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie's old record from 2014 by one centimeter.

World records indoors also count as best performances outdoors, making Duplantis the sole world record holder in his field. “This is something I’ve wanted since I was three,” Duplantis said, “It’s an important year and this is a good start.”

Four days after his 6,00 m jump in Düsseldorf, the “Tiger Woods” among the pole vaulters in Torun had already jumped 6,01 m. While he narrowly missed the world record height of 6,17 m on the Rhine, this time he didn't let himself be stopped. After a failed attempt at the first attempt, he succeeded in his big coup.

There seem to be no limits for Armand Duplantis on his way to the top. He has been breaking age records since he was seven and is now the superstar among the “Stabis”. With his rousing manner he takes the audience with him; in the athletics scene he is believed to at least partially fill the vacuum created by the retirement of sprint icon Usain Bolt.
