“With a heavy heart”: Lake Kaltern half marathon canceled

In the past few weeks and months, the South Tyrolean Running Club has worked hard to ensure that the Lake Kaltern Half Marathon can take place on Sunday, March 21st. After all, after a long, cold winter, people's need for exercise in the outdoors increases. In addition, due to the pandemic, only a reduced number of running events took place last year, which understandably makes the athletes' desire to compete even greater. In order to be able to hold the popular running event with the greatest possible safety in the midst of the corona pandemic, the rigorous security concept of the Italian athletics association FIDAL was adapted. The preparations for the South Tyrolean spring classic were also almost complete. Everything was set for the 15th edition of the Under Armor Kalterer See Half Marathon, which was one of the first sporting events in the country to fall victim to the pandemic last year. Now, 12 months later, the organizers have to raise the white flag again. Decision is supported “We are of course very disappointed that we cannot hold the race. The cancellation comes with a heavy heart. The medical company gave us the green light months ago because we presented a sophisticated safety concept. So you certainly can't blame us for not being prepared. Nevertheless, the state government has now called it quits, which is probably due on the one hand to the extension of the lockdown and on the other hand to the circulating virus mutations. Of course, we fully support the decision in this delicate situation. Nevertheless, it is annoying when the cancellation comes only eleven days before the actual date,” explains Patrick Olivetto, OC head of the Kalterer See Half Marathon. It is currently not clear whether the traditional sporting event will be rescheduled at a later date. Registrations that have already been received remain valid and will be transferred to the next edition of the race free of charge. Due to the cancellation of the Kalterer See half marathon, the start of the top 7 running series has also been postponed. Now the start will most likely take place on Sunday, May 2nd, when the Meran-Algund Half Marathon is on the program. Everything was ready, but on Wednesday the organizers of the South Tyrolean Running Club had to come to an end. The state government is not granting permission for the Under Armor Kalterer See Half Marathon on Sunday, March 21st.
