Six new Italian records at the Masters Italian Championships

At the Italian Indoor Championships for Masters athletes, a total of 350 medals were awarded and 25 new Italian records were set, of which no fewer than six were achieved by South Tyroleans.

Waltraud Egger was particularly impressive in Ancona, setting three new Italian records in her first year in the F65 category, namely over 800 m, over 1500 m and over 3000 m. She beat them on the longest of the three distances national record of 12:48,70 minutes by more than 40 seconds.

Waltraud Mattedi, mother of FC-Südtirol player Manuel Filehner, put in a great performance in the discus throw in the F55 category and set a new record with 36,04 m. The other two records were achieved by Thomas Oberhofer in the M50 category over 60 m hurdles (8,73 seconds) and the 4x200 m relay of SC Meran (M75) with Aldo Zorzi, Hans Laimer, Konrad Geiser and Silvano Giavara.

The local Masters athletes returned from the Italian Indoor Championships in Ancona with a total of 38 medals. They collected gold 19 times, with seven titles for men (Hubert Indra was crowned Italian champion twice) and 12 for women (in addition to the aforementioned Egger and Mattedi, Rosa Pattis and Ingeborg Zorzi also won several gold medals). There are also eleven silver and eight bronze medals.
