Six South Tyrolean medals at the U16 regional meeting in Fidenza

The national selection was denied a day's victory in this year's comparison of the best U16 track and field athletes in northern and central Italy, but it did achieve six podium finishes. Starting with Anastasia Veronesi Vedovelli from Neumarkt, who took second place in the 80 m hurdles in 11.30 seconds. She thus improved her record by another 29 hundredths. Today only host Sandra Millena Ferrari was faster than Veronesi Vedovelli in 11.10 seconds. Her teammate from the South Tyrol Team Club, Sarah Fiwickeler, also came second. The javelin thrower from Signat only had to admit defeat to the superior winner Genet Galli (41 m) with exactly 45.47 meters. Filehner and Vedovelli then took bronze with Anna Di Giovanni and Marie Burger in the 4x100 m relay in 49.11 seconds.

The third silver medal went to Beltina Kallaba, also from the South Tyrol Team Club. The 15-year-old shot putter's new record was 13.33 m. She was only 68 cm short of the victory of Benedetta Benedetti from Lazio.

Maddalena Melle also gave a great performance in the 1000 m run. The middle-distance runner from SC Meran, who came fourth last year, made it onto the podium this year and came third in 3:06.98 minutes. Bronze also went to the 1200 m steeplechase runner Greta Chizzali from SG Eisacktal, who beat her personal best by an impressive 4.43 seconds and improved it to 4:01.78 minutes. Anna Di Giovanni also impressed in sixth place in the high jump.

While the girls achieved several top ten results in Fidenza, only 100 m hurdler Luca Boesso, shot putter David Pircher and javelin thrower Jakob Göller achieved a top ten placement among the boys.

In the overall ranking, the South Tyrol selection took 11th place. As in the previous year, the young athletes from Lombardy secured victory, ahead of Lazio and Emilia Romagna.

At the weekend the traditional regional meeting of the U16 age group took place in Fidenza (Emilia Romagna). South Tyrol's young athletes achieved a whole series of top results.
