Sensational: Athletic Club Bozen wins the Italian championship

The 2019 Italian championship title goes to Bolzano for the first time. In the men's category, the club from the Talferstadt won with 177 points ahead of the defending champions from Lazio, Atletica Studenteschi Rieti (166), and Atletica Vicentina (153). After third place last year, Athletic Club 96 secured its first “Tricolore” at the Italian team championship.

Athletic Club 96 takes four daily wins and five podium places Albert Chemutai ensured the top result for the Talferstadt team. The only 19-year-old top athlete from Uganda was able to hold his own in both the 5000 m and the 3000 steeplechase. Hurdle champion Paolo Dal Molin also took gold. The European Indoor European Championship runner-up from 2013 stopped the time measurement over 110 m hurdles in a strong 13.75 seconds. Antonino Trio took the fourth victory in Bolzano. The long jumper was able to win clearly ahead of Gabriele Chilà (7.78) and Mohamed Chahboun (7.60) with 7.54 m.

The newly crowned U23 Italian champion over 400 m, Brayan Lopez, came third in his flagship discipline in 46.84 seconds, and walker Leonardo Dei Tos from Vittorio Veneto also came third over 10 km in 43:08.20 minutes. Middle-distance runner Abdessalam Machmach had to finish over 3 m settle for fourth place.

Three podium places came from the throwing disciplines: Michele Ongarato achieved his new season record in the hammer throw of 65.17 m. That was enough for second place behind Giacomo Proserpio (69.05 m). Discus thrower Daniel Compagno took bronze with 51.78 m, the same as shot putter Marco Dodoni (15.73 m). Sensational: Athletic Club Bozen wins the Italian championship

With a historic performance, the Bolzano club Athletic Club 96 Alperia made people sit up and take notice this weekend at the Italian team championship in Florence. President Bruno Telchini's team was crowned Italian champions in the “Finale Oro” of the 13 best teams in Italy.
