Silver for Kirchler, bronze for Cavalleri

As is often the case, Hannes Kirchler was South Tyrol's great hope for a medal in these title fights. On Sunday, the experienced Meraner didn't quite live up to his role as favorite. The 13-time Italian champion and defending champion took second place with 59,09 m.

The victory went to Giovanni Faloci from Umbria, who overtook Kirchler thanks to a strong last throw with 61,53 m. Nazzareno di Marco completed the podium with 58.72 m.

Kirchler achieved his record in the second attempt, then he threw 57,43 m, 59,01 m, 58,54 m and in the last attempt 57,67 m, while the first throw was invalid.

Cavalleri wins bronze in the 400m hurdles In the final women's 400 m hurdles, Valentina Cavalleri from Puster once again came up trumps. The 21-year-old from San Candido, who competes for the army sports group, ran onto the podium in a strong 58,13 seconds and won bronze. It was her first medal in the “Assoluti” after she had to settle for fourth place last year.

Her former teammate from SSV Bruneck, Caren Agreiter, was exactly one second behind Cavalleri. The 22-year-old reached sixth place in 59,14 seconds.

As in the previous year, the title went to favorite Yadisleidy Pedroso in 55,62 seconds, who was able to hold her own ahead of Ayomide Folorunso (56,01).

Hammer thrower Michele Ongarato also secured a good fifth place. The athlete from Bolzano's Athletic Club 96 reached 60.76 m, but was almost seven meters short of bronze.

On Saturday, Alexander Demetz won two more bronze medals in the decathlon and Abdessalam Machmach in the 800 m.

Silver for Kirchler, bronze for Cavalleri

Hannes Kirchler didn't make it this time. The 39-year-old from Meran had to settle for second place in the discus throw with 59,09 m at the Italian Championships in Pescara on Sunday. Valentina Cavalleri from Innich also won a medal: she took bronze in the 400 m hurdles.
