Silvia Weissteiner and Markus Ploner are the national champions

The sun shone over Olang on Saturday, September 29th, with the participants in the VSS/Raiffeisen village run competing. In the best conditions, more than 350 runners between the ages of five and 69 took part in the Pustertal.

There was a special highlight for the youngest: the starting signal for the trial category was given by none other than Bishop Ivo Muser. “It's nice to see how much enthusiasm you have at the start, that's why you're all winners already,” Muser was visibly impressed.

Impressive spectator scenery The crowd in Valdaora was also impressive. Numerous Olangers stood along the route and loudly supported the runners. The finish area itself was packed from the first to the last race. ASC Olang President Jochen Schenk and his team around the well-known runners Christian Neunhäuserer and Hermann Achmüller were more than satisfied.

The people of Olanger also managed to guide numerous guests of honor, including biathlon ace Dominik Windisch, state parliament member Magdalena Ambach and VSS board member Willy Marinoni, to the Pustertal. Right at the beginning of the 10-kilometer route, Markus Ploner picked up the pace and, after the first of five laps, put a large gap between himself and the first chasing group. Round after lap the picture in the chasing field changed; numerous runners started the first few kilometers too quickly and gradually fell behind. In the end, Markus Ploner from ASV Vipiteno won the 31 VSS/Raiffeisen national road running championship title with an outstanding time of 13:2 minutes, 50:2018 minutes ahead of Joachim Mair (ASC Rasen). Third place went to local hero and OK member Hermann Achmüller from LC Pustertal. Weissteiner wins confidently Among the women, Silvia Weissteiner, an athlete from ASV Vipiteno, also confidently won the VSS/Raiffeisen national championship title. The former track specialist won over 5.000 meters in a time of 18:20 minutes. Petra Pircher from Lasa took second place, 43 seconds behind, and Selina Christandl completed the podium. The runner from Lauffreunde Laatsch/Taufers in Münstertal came through with a strong finish, just ahead of Anna Gräber from Oberwielenbach. Club ranking to Laas The club ranking was once again secured by ASC Laas with 1.301 points ahead of LC Pustertal with 1.134 points. The runners from the running friends from Laatsch/Taufers in Münstertal took third place.

A look at the distribution of national championship titles in the children's and youth sector shows how balanced the athletes' performances were: There were VSS/Raiffeisen national champions from eleven clubs in twelve categories. By the way, the VSS/Raiffeisen city and village running series continues on October 21st with the run in Sarnonico. For the first time a race will take place outside of South Tyrol. Just a week later, the big season finale will take place in St. Ulrich.
