Sprint meeting Meran: Desalu wins 200m in 20.77 seconds

The 23-year-old “Azzurro” with Nigerian roots, who was in action with the Italian sprint relay in Montecarlo the evening before, wanted to achieve the World Championship standard for London (20.44) in Meran. Three weeks ago at the Italian Championships in Trieste he won the title with 20.32 seconds, albeit with an increased tailwind (+2,2). In Meran he found ideal conditions. At 28 degrees and completely calm, Desalu won with a good 20.77 seconds, but it was not enough to qualify for the World Cup. Federico Raguni from CUS Palermo came second (21.33) ahead of Kevin Giacomelli from Bolzano club Athletic Club 96 (22.53). The Val Gardena decathlete Alexander Demetz took fourth place with his new personal best time of 22.74 seconds, ahead of Patrick Baù from SG Eisacktal (22.79).

Demetz also set a new personal record in the 100m in 11.28 seconds. This time was enough for fifth place. Because top favorite Rugani had a false start, the victory went to Freider Fornassari from Modena in 11.06 seconds ahead of Giacomelli (11.15). Habtamu Decarli from Atletica Trento won over 400m (54.90).

Double victory for Annalisa Spadotto Scott In the women's category, Annalisa Spadotto Scott of Bracco Milan celebrated a double victory, like last year. Spadotto Scott won the 100m in 12.09 seconds ahead of Margherita Zuecco (Atletica Vicentina/12.24) and the 200m in 24.14 seconds ahead of Federica Putti (Atletica Bergamo/25.09). Maia Gamper from Merano was the best South Tyrolean and took 100th place in the 6m run in 13.03 seconds, while Isabel Vikoler from SG Eisacktal came fifth in the 200m. In 26.63 seconds she improved by 19 hundredths. There was a South Tyrolean victory in the 400m run, where Federica Cavalli from Bolzano was able to assert herself in 58.33 seconds.

There were also five South Tyrolean daily victories in the youth categories with Anastasia Veronesi Vedovelli, Samuel Demetz, Annika Oberrauch, Kewe Ndiaye and the U16 girls relay team from SC Meran.
