Stefani 31st at the European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade – fourth place in the team ranking

Stefani, who came 74th in her European Cross Country debut last year, put in a confident performance on Sunday morning. The Vipiteno woman crossed the finish line 56 seconds behind the winner and placed 31st. This made the 18-year-old from Wipptal the third best Italian behind Federica Del Buono (25th) and Angelica Olmo (26th).

Gold went to the British Emelia Gorecka, who was crowned European cross junior champion in Velenje two years ago and took second place in Budapest last year. With a time of 13.06 minutes, she beat the Pole Sofia Ennaoui (+10 seconds) and the Slovenian Marusa Mismas (+11 seconds).

“Azzurre” narrowly missed out on a medal in the team rankings

In the team ranking, in which the four best results of each nation are counted, the Italians ended up in fourth place with Del Buono (25th), Olmo (26th), Stefani (31st) and Mattioli (40th). rank and narrowly missed out on a medal. The victory went to Great Britain. Gorecka and Co. prevailed over the Swedes and Germany. Before Anna Stefani, only four South Tyrolean athletes took part in the cross country championships: Silvia Weissteiner, Renate Rungger, Agnes Tschurtschenthaler and Christian Obrist. Weissteiner achieved her best result to date in 2006 in San Giorgio su Legnano, when she came 13th in the general class.
