South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run: The starting signal will be given tomorrow

After the start in Sexten and a village tour in the center of the well-known tourist destination in the Alta Pusteria, the 1000 athletes will head to Moos. The athletes run slightly uphill through the lush green larch meadows of the “Fischleintal” to the Fischleinboden hut and on to the valley end hut. Shortly after the valley end hut (at km 8,2) at the Bacherntal-Altensteinertal crossroads, turn left towards the Zsigmondyhütte.

The selective serpentine path to the Zsigmondyhütte and further to the Büllelejochhütte at 2575 meters above sea level has been one of the criteria of the “South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run” in previous years - and will be one of them this year too. From the Büllelejochhütte the last three kilometers go in front of the Paternkofel, above the Bodensees, to the finish at the Drei Zinnen Hütte at an altitude of 2405 meters above sea level. In total there is a distance of 17,5 kilometers and 1350 meters in altitude to overcome. The fabulous panorama of the Three Peaks in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site is the reward for the strain and effort.

“We are happy that it is finally starting. The entire team has completed the preparatory work. Now nothing stands in the way of a hopefully accident-free race in our majestic mountains. I wish all participants that they achieve the goals they have set for themselves,” says OC boss Gottfried Hofer the day before the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run.

Many top athletes at the start

Numerous top athletes have registered for one of the most beautiful mountain races in the world, including multiple winner Jonathan Wyatt, the most successful mountain runner of all time. The New Zealand native faces competition from Emanuele Manzi, Philip Götsch and Gerd Frick. In the women's race there is likely to be a three-way battle between Sara Bottarelli, Francesca Iachemet and Edeltraud Thaler.

But the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run is not only first-class from a sporting perspective, the supporting program is also very extensive and varied. The dumpling party is taking place this Friday, September 12th from 18 p.m. Starting numbers will be handed out at Haus Sexten from 13 p.m., where the runners' expo also takes place. Tomorrow, Saturday, September 13th, the big Ö20 disco will be celebrated from 3 p.m. “Because the temperatures in Sexten are already cool in the evening, we decided to move all supporting events indoors, i.e. to the Sexten House,” explains OK boss Hofer.

The three-day mountain running event will conclude on Sunday, September 14th with the 10th Mini Drei Zinnen Alpine Run for children and young people up to the age of 18.

The wait for the 1000 mountain runners from 21 nations and three continents is over. Tomorrow, Saturday, September 13th, the starting signal will be fired at 10 a.m. for the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run, which will be held for the 17th time this year.
