South Tyroleans dominate the 9th edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon

After a brief thunderstorm on Saturday evening, this year's edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon boasted wonderful summer weather. Of a total of 265 registered participants, around 230 runners took part in both races. Runners from South Tyrol won three of the races: Georg Piazza (ASV Gherdeina Runners) won the Maddalene Sky Marathon with a time of 4:53.52 hours. Due to the high temperatures, his time was well above Fulvio Dapit's course record (4:27.35) from 2012. Shortly afterwards, Roberto Dallavalle and Ferrari Nicola crossed the finish line. Reinhard Pixner from ASC Algund took the excellent 6th place, followed in 9th place by another South Tyrolean, Gregor Höllrigl (Fullsport Meran).

In the women's race this year, Edeltraud Thaler (Telmekom Team) prevailed for the first time and was finally in first place on the third attempt with a time of 6:20:27. After Serena Ioriatti came second, another South Tyrolean, Isabel Tribus, followed in third place . Elisabeth Laimer (Fullsport Meran) and Angelika Huber (SC Meran) achieved an excellent 1th and 2th place respectively, followed by Brigitte Prackwieser Vasselei in 3th place (Laufreunde Sarntal). Victory in the combined ranking of the South Tyrol SkyMarathon and Maddalene SkyMarathon was secured by Elisabeth Laimer for the women with a total time of 13:27:37 and for the men by Rainhard Pixner with a time of 10:48:90.

Götsch and Gelpi win the third edition of the Maddalene Mountain Race The victory of the second Maddalene Sky Race from Our Lady in the Forest to Rumo over 25 km also went to a South Tyrolean athlete. The Tyrolean Philipp Götsch was the first among men to reach the finish in Rumo with a new best time of 2:12.43 hours. He was followed by Alex Cavallar and Daniele Andreis – last year’s winner – in second and third place.

In the women's category, last year's winner Anneliese Felderer (ASC LF Sarntal Raiffeisen) had to admit defeat to Paola Gelpi this year. Gelpi also improved the best time from the previous year by 4 minutes and crossed the finish line with a time of 2:34.15 hours. The runner-up from last year took home the win this year, practically turning the previous year's result around in their favor. Jessica Ruatti completed the women's podium. Two other South Tyroleans, however, took 4th and 5th place, namely Elisabeth Chiusole from SC Neugries and Barbara Vasselai from ASC LF Sarntal Raiffeisen.

South Tyroleans dominate the 9th edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon

The ninth edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon and the third edition of the Maddalene Mountain Race took place on Sunday. There was a South Tyrolean double victory at the Maddalene Sky Marathon. A South Tyrolean also won the men's category at the Maddalene Mountain Race.
