South Tyrolean double victory at the Ultra Trail season opener in Tuscany

Julia Kessler from Meran and Andreas Reiterer from Haflinger were unbeatable on the Brunello Crossing Trail, a 45-kilometer-long running route with an elevation gain of 1.960 meters. Julia Kessler was able to repeat last year's victory and Andreas Reiterer set a new course record.

The South Tyrolean trail scene, which keeps fit over the winter primarily with ski touring training, underlined its impressive early form at the Brunello Crossing Trail. The field of participants for both men and women was very high-caliber. The Italian national team, which also includes both South Tyrolean athletes, was at the start with the entire contingent of its athletes. The race was clearly seen as the first point of direction for the upcoming Ultra Trail World Tour races.

The men's race was a three-way battle for victory. After the first few kilometers, the trio of Andreas Reiterer, Andrea Rota and Cristian Minoggio broke away from the rest of the field. With high speed and rhythm changes, Reiterer tried to keep his opponents at a distance. However, they remained stubborn until kilometer 30 and were unable to gain a significant lead. On the climb in the last part of the race, the Haflinger once again threw everything into the balance and reached for victory at high speed.

With a lead of over a minute and a new course record, he won in 3.08.16:4.06.53:11 minutes ahead of Cristian Minoggio and Andrea Rota. In the women's race it was a close duel between last year's South Tyrolean winner Julia Kessler and Marina Cugnetto. The former was in the lead throughout the entire race and was ultimately crowned winner with a start-to-finish victory in XNUMX and XNUMX seconds ahead.
