South Tyroleans win 17 medals at the European Masters Championships

9 gold, four silver and 4 bronze medals. That is the excellent record of the South Tyroleans at the European Masters Championships. Rudolf Frei secured four medals. The M70 athlete from the Merano sports club won gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 m relay, and he also came second in the 800 m and 300 m hurdles. In the hurdles, Frei even set an Italian M2 record in 51.28 seconds.

His teammate Ingeborg Zorzi climbed onto the podium three times. The former volleyball player was crowned F70 heptathlon European champion with 4.966 points, she came second in the high jump (1.14 m), while she took bronze in the 80 m hurdles in 23.45 seconds.

Masters ace Hubert Indra also brought home three medals. The 62-year-old from Lanan won the M60 decathlon with 6.425 points, and he was also in a class of his own in the pole vault (3.70 m). Indra is currently the European Championship and World Championship title holder in the all-around competition, as he was already crowned M60 world champion in Malaga, Spain, last year. The athlete from the South Tyrol Team Club also secured bronze in the 100 m hurdles.

Rosanna Barbi Lanziner, on the other hand, was crowned double European champion. The F60 middle distance runner from Truden won the 800 m in a good 2:44.77 minutes and the 1500 m in 5:48.38 minutes. Konrad Geiser from Meran, on the other hand, can call himself the team cross-country European champion. In the M70, Geiser secured the gold medal with Luciano Faraguna and Salvatore Puglisi. He also won bronze in the 800 m.

Hubert Göller won the next South Tyrolean Masters European Championship title. The 42-year-old javelin thrower from Athletic Club 96 Bozen, who started the race as defending champion, managed a strong 40 m in the M61,24 category, which ultimately gave him victory. Göller relegated the Czech Lubos Novacek (60.61) and Maurice Vasteels (58.36) from Belgium to places 2 and 3. Erika Niedermayr from Südtirol Team Club was crowned F80 vice-European champion in the 55 m hurdles in 13.71 seconds, the Bolzano-based Angelo Lella (M35) won bronze in the 400 m hurdles in 55.41 seconds.

South Tyroleans win 17 medals at the European Masters Championships

The European Championship of the Masters categories came to an end on Sunday. 5.039 track and field athletes from 43 countries met in Jesolo, Caorle and Eraclea for eleven days. Among the numerous participants, the South Tyrolean athletes also secured 17 medals.
