South Tyrolean athletics festival in the Felsenkeller

“We are experiencing a generational change. Although our experienced athletes, such as Silvia Weissteiner and Hannes Kirchler, are still very successful, the future belongs to the young talent. And it is on the rise,” said Cappello happily during his speech, where he also met CONI President Heinz Gutweniger, FIDAL board member Stefano Andreatta, VSS managing director Klaus von Dellemann and the sponsors Bruno Doni (Ladurner Umwelt) and Lorenzo Concia (Mondo) was able to welcome. “In 2015, eleven South Tyrolean athletes also competed in international events for the Italian national team. Five were crowned Italian champions, and the South Tyroleans were on the podium a total of 18 times in the national title fights. And they set nine new national records this year,” summarized Cappello. He also recalled the strong performances at the Masters, such as Thomas Oberhofer's World Championship gold in the M50 age group over 100 m hurdles. The biggest went to Silvia Weissteiner, who will run the Rome Marathon in a month and still has a chance of qualifying for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
