South Tyrolean Masters track and field athletes shine

Five years ago, the ladies of the South Tyrol Team Club even achieved a major coup when President Edmund Lanziner's athletes were crowned team Italian champions for the first time in L'Aquila in Abruzzo. Since 2011, the STC women have always been on the podium, only in 2017 (8th place) and 2019 (4th place) were they not enough for the podium. After a year of Corona break, they made it back onto the podium this year. The South Tyroleans came second with 1257 points, behind ASD Liberatletica, who secured the “Scudetto” with 1272 points. The local athletes won six victories in the individual disciplines. The most successful athlete in the South Tyrol Team Club was once again Waltraud Mattedi, who emerged victorious in both the discus and javelin throw. Middle-distance runner Elisabeth Moser also won two titles (1500 and 3000 m). Shot putter Renate Schäfer and 200 m hurdles ace Erika Niedermayr also won the Italian championship title. Two silver medals went to Rosanna Barbi Lanziner over 800 m and Renate Prast over 100 m. Men's team in 17th place However, things didn't go as well for the men's team from the South Tyrol Team Club. After the last three eighth places and 12th place in 2019, this time we came in 17th place. The local athletes returned home empty-handed as no one managed to reach the podium. Roman Zublasing narrowly missed the podium in the javelin throw (5th), Hubert Indra from Lanan (200 m hurdles + high jump) and shot putter Edmund Lanziner also made it into the top ten.

The Italian Masters team championship took place in Tivoli at the weekend. Among the 25 participating clubs, the South Tyrol Team Club was also represented with a women's and men's team.
