South Tyroleans win at the Italian Masters Championship

13 gold and 5 silver medals. This is the excellent record of the local Masters athletes in Campi Bisenzio. The most successful club was once again the South Tyrol Team Club with 11 medals won: Among the men, the main focus was on the Lananer M60 athlete Hubert Indra, who was crowned Italian champion in both the 100 m hurdles and the pole vault. Indra also came second in the triple jump. Rudolf Frei also showed an extremely strong performance. The M70 athlete from the Meran Sports Club set a new Italian record in the 300m hurdles in 53.70 seconds. The Merano native also secured the Italian championship title in the 800 m. Gold was also won by 400 m runner Marco Palmieri, 400 m hurdles ace Angelo Lella (both M35) and M40 javelin thrower Hubert Göller from Meran. All three start for the Bolzano club Athletic Club 96. Guido Mazzoli from SC Meran, however, was named Italian runner-up in the M80 javelin throw.

Waltraud Mattedi from the South Tyrol Team Club was particularly impressive among the women. In addition to the discus and javelin throw, the F55 from Signat also won the shot put. Mattedi was crowned triple Italian champion, something she already achieved last year in Arezzo. Her teammates Rosanna Barbi Lanziner, Elisabeth Moser and Erika Niedermayr also showed a great performance. Lanziner from Truden won gold in the F60 over 800m and silver in the 400m, while middle distance athlete Moser and 80m hurdler Niedermayr (both F55) were crowned Italian champions. Maria Pircher from SC Meran won two silver medals in the F65 over 100 and 200 m.

South Tyroleans win at the Italian Masters Championship

The Italian Masters Categories Championship came to an end on Sunday in Campi Bisenzio. 1.359 track and field athletes met in Tuscany for three days. The South Tyrolean athletes in particular were particularly impressive: they won 18 medals.
