South Tyroleans win at the Italian Masters Championship

Ten gold, two silver and one bronze medals. This is the excellent record of the local Masters athletes in Rieti. The most successful club was once again the South Tyrol Team Club with eleven medals won: The focus for the women was clearly Waltraud Mattedi. The Signater F60 athlete won the Italian championship title in all five throwing disciplines: Mattedi won the discus and hammer throw with 31.28 and 37.32 m, respectively, while she achieved 10.11 m in the shot put. In the javelin throw, Mattedi increased her own Italian record by 72 centimeters to 32.21 m. She also won the short hammer with 14.15 m. An amazing weekend for Mattedi. The Sarner F60 middle distance runner Elisabeth Moser left all the competition behind in the 800 and 1500 m, Renate Prast (F60) was crowned Italian champion in the 100 m. Laura Fedrizzi from Athletic Club 96 Bozen, however, took bronze in the F45 long jump with 4.44 m. In the men's category, the focus was on M60 athlete Hubert Indra: the Lananer triumphed over the 100 m hurdles in 16.35 seconds and also won silver in the triple jump. However, Indra narrowly missed the podium in the discus and javelin throws, where he had to settle for fourth place with 39.72 and 38.59 m respectively. The 4 m hurdler Angelo Lella, who competes for the Athletic Club 96 Bozen, won the M400 race in 35 seconds. Alexander Ebner from the South Tyrol Team Club won silver in the M54.12 triple jump with 65 m. South Tyroleans win at the Italian Masters Championship

The Italian championship in the Masters categories came to an end in Rieti on Sunday. Over 1.200 track and field athletes competed in Lazio for four days. The South Tyroleans also made people sit up and take notice: they won 13 medals.
