South Tyrol's largest women's run is celebrating its birthday

Ten years ago, the Women's Run Brixen was launched as a supporting program for the Brixen Dolomites Marathon. But the Women's Run soon developed a strong momentum of its own. Under the motto “all different – all woman”, more and more participants from all over the country and from abroad came to Brixen to take part in the solidarity run.

It's neither about top performance nor about competition. “The Women's Run is just about having fun, meeting up with friends and spending a good time together - all while doing some sport,” says Martina Ellecosta from the OK team. “The Women's Run is a wonderful experience for all runners; it sends a great message to the outside world: every woman in Brixen should feel comfortable while moving around the city. The event has a very special character and promotes community cohesion,” says Anita Stampfer from the OK team.

Almost a thousand participants had already taken part in the Women's Run on Domplatz before Corona caused the number of participants to drop again. This year, for organizational reasons, a maximum of 500 women are allowed to take part; more than 400 have already registered. The ladies run 4 kilometers through the old town of Brixen - some with their children by the hand, others with strollers or with their dogs and others walking. But the participants all have one thing in common: a smile on their face. The special feature of the Women's Run Brixen has always been the shared T-shirts, which transform the cathedral square into a sea of color. Men are also allowed to take part on the anniversary For this year's tenth edition, the organizers have come up with something special: “On the one hand, there is a new video that is intended to motivate people to take part and also shows that every woman is welcome at our run. On the other hand, men are allowed to run for the first time this year,” says Ellecosta happily. The men are therefore called upon to arrive at Cathedral Square at 19 p.m. With a voluntary donation you not only support the initiative “ es geat di a un – tocca a te “, which campaigns against violence against women, but by walking around the old town they show that they support women and are taking a stand against domestic violence.

Instead of trophies, the only prize that will be raffled off among all participants is “Angelo di Valeria”, a painting by the artist Karolina Gacke. It is intended to commemorate the Brixen athlete Valeria, who died suddenly in 2012 at the age of just 21.

The event starts at 16 p.m. with the VSS “Sprint Champion”, a children's race in which children can compete over a distance of 30 meters. At 19 p.m. it will be the men's turn before the traditional warm-up with Alexia Bernardi starts at 19.30:20 p.m. The starting signal for the anniversary edition will be given at XNUMX p.m. Registrations are still open, late entries are possible on site at Domplatz.
