Top mountain runners Frick and Rungger at the Soltn mountain half marathon

Defending champion Gerd Frick and Hannes Rungger from Sarn are the big favorites at the top 7 premiere of this event on Sunday. Ten days ago they took sixth and seventh place at the world-famous Jungfrau Marathon.

Frick is the defending champion at Salten, Rungger won in 2008. They have both been on the podium several times. The winner receives a 500 euro check. "It's definitely going to be an exciting race. Let's see who's ahead this time," says Frick happily. The race at Salten has a special appeal for the 37-year-old: "The Salten Wiesn naturally offers a special panorama and the perfect organization makes it an event with heart."

In the wake of the two top favorites, Rudi Brunner from Meran can secure the top 7 overall victory before the final half marathon of the Three Municipalities on October 23rd in Branzoll. Brunner has already won the Lake Kaltern half marathon this year. The duel for the overall victory among women is more exciting. The first two placed Edeltraud Thaler and Petra Pircher will also be starting at Salten. As a dedicated mountain runner, Thaler naturally has an advantage.

The organizers are also expecting a new record number of participants for the Top7 premiere. “We have significantly more registrations five days before the race than in the same period last year,” says OC boss Sepp Rungaldier from ASV Jenesien Soltnflitzer. "Due to the expected good weather, we are still expecting a large number of people to make last-minute decisions."

The start takes place at the Jenesien sports field at 1226 m above sea level. From there the route leads to the highest point near the Langfenn church (1527 m) and along a different route back to the starting point. A total of 520 meters of altitude have to be overcome.

Two of the 21,1 km are paved, the rest are forestry and hiking trails. “The ups and downs mean there are a lot of changes in pace. The kilometer times vary between 3 and 8 minutes,” explains Frick. "The route is atypical for a half marathon. Additionally, you shouldn't underestimate the altitude." At least Frick doesn't have to worry about the altitude because he now lives in Davos, Switzerland, at 1550 m.

If 21.1 km is too long for you, you can share the route with a partner for the first time this year. The change takes place after 10.6 km in Langfenn. The relay participants not only have a free bus transfer to and from the transition area, but also great prizes. The event begins on Saturday at 14.30:XNUMX p.m. with the cycling race from Bolzano to San Genesio.
