U16 selection strong in regional comparison match

“The regional comparison match is a kind of small Italian championship. Getting on the podium there is always a great thing,” said national coach Karl Schöpf, happy about the three podium places. After two bronze medals last year, this time a complete set of medals was enough.

Julia Calliari from LC Bozen set a new Italian best time of the year in the 60 m sprint in 7.86. Calliari is the reigning U16 Italian champion over 80 m. Franziska Kofler from SV Lana also set a new record. In the high jump she increased by four centimeters to 1.58 m and thus took second place. Another athlete from SV Lana secured the third place on the podium. Markus Puff came third in the 60 m hurdles in 8.66. He was only two hundredths of a second shy of silver.

Stefanie Gruber (SV Lana) just missed the podium in fourth place in the shot put. In total, South Tyrol was able to look forward to nine top 8 placements. 14 athletes set personal bests. In the team ranking, South Tyrol did not get higher than seventh place because some disciplines were not taken. Veneto secured overall victory.
