U16 team fights for top positions at the Italian Championships

“I think one or two top placements for the girls, i.e. a place in the final of the top eight, is definitely possible,” believes state coach Karl Schöpf. As a team, we are clearly behind the larger regions. Nevertheless, I think it is possible to confirm or even surpass last year's 12th place. That would be a great success for South Tyrol.

At least four girls are headed for the finals. Martina Natalini (SAF Bolzano) could continue the South Tyrolean tradition in the 80 m hurdles, as there was a medal in this discipline in each of the last two years. Natalini is registered with the fifth best time, as is Valentina Cavalleri (SSV Bruneck), the daughter of former Olympian Irmgard Trojer, in the 300 m hurdles.

Lisa Seppi from SV Lana entered the pentathlon with the fourth best number of points. In the 3 km walk, 14-year-old Klara Filehner (SC Meran) is aiming for a top position. She registered with the seventh best time. Her teammate Stefanie Ravasi follows closely behind. Together they won the U16 team Italian championship title for SC Meran this year.

The U16 Italian Championships in Cles with more than 1000 participants last from Friday afternoon to Sunday. The official delegate of the Italian association for these title fights is South Tyrol's top athletics official Stefano Andreatta.
