U16 Italian Championship: South Tyroleans come away empty-handed

In the women's team ranking, the South Tyrolean selection finished tenth overall with 200 points; the title went to Lombardy with 311 points, ahead of the hosts from Veneto (301) and Emilia Romagna (271). The boys, however, didn't get past 17th place. A total of over 800 young people from 21 regions took part.

In the Veneto, only a few local athletes were able to convince. Alexa Schneider ensured the South Tyrolean top performance. The figurehead from SSV Bruneck took fourth place in the pentathlon with 4.021 points. Schneider also improved her personal best by 168 points, but narrowly missed out on the podium. The new Italian champion is Isabella Pastore (4.212) from Piedmont, who was able to hold her own ahead of Martina Bianchi (4.127) and Vittoria Masiero (4.125). Schneider's teammate Hannah Thaler came in fifth place with 3.927 points (also a new best).

Hanna Pichler, Greta Amhof and Maximilian Springeth, however, all ended up in sixth place. The 300 m runner Pichler from the South Tyrol Team Club stopped the time measurement in 42.27 seconds, Amhof from Bruneck achieved 5.06 m in the long jump. High jumper Springeth from the SAB achieved 1.77 m. Three other South Tyrolean athletes also made it into the top Ten. Annalisa Goffi from Val Gardena crossed 1.51 m in the high jump, which was enough for 9th place. Stephanie Schöpf from Lana took 26.44th place in the discus throw with 10 m. In the boys' competition, Leo Masi from Bolzano also came tenth (30.22 m). Six medals at the Italian Youth Championships Schneider's missed bronze medal at the U16 Italian Championships in Caorle also marks the end of the track season for track and field athletes, which was once again very successful for South Tyrol this year. In total, the local young athletes won six medals in the U16, U18, U20 and U23 age groups.

At the U23 Italian Championships in Florence, Tierser 3000 m steeplechase Katja Pattis and the 4x100 m relay team from Athletic Club 96 Bozen won the Italian championship title. The Burgstall heptathlete Linda Maria Pichler took silver. At the U20 title fights in Rieti, the South Tyroleans returned with two bronze medals, won by Emily Vucemillo from Merano (3000 m) and Marie Burger (100 m hurdles) from Vahrn. Nothing came of a South Tyrolean medal at the U16 Italian Championships in Caorle. However, Alexa Schneider from Pusteria narrowly missed the podium, coming fourth in the pentathlon.
