U16 title fights: South Tyrol wins three medals

In the team ranking, the South Tyrolean selection came 330th overall with 13 points; the title went to Lombardy with 587 points, ahead of Lazio (565.5) and Veneto (540). The girls took an excellent 7th place, while the boys didn't get past 18th place. A total of 952 athletes from 21 regions took part.

Weak boys, strong girls While the local boys had no say in the awarding of the top places, the South Tyrolean girls won three medals and also took another six top ten positions. Katja Pattis (Bozen Running Club) came fourth over 6 m in 46.96:2000 minutes, while Ida Harasser from Bruneck (10.40 seconds over 80 m) and Sophie Mittersteiner from Lana (11.42 m in the triple jump) came in 5th.

Nathalie Kofler won silver in the pole vault. The 15-year-old from Lana equaled her personal best of 3.40 m in the first attempt and was only beaten by Laura Pirovano from Lombardy, who, after a failed attempt at 3.40 m, only jumped 3.45 m in the third and final attempt and thus won the Italian championship title.

Federica Cavalli of the Bolzano club SAF won bronze over 300 m. The victory went to the Roman Chiara Gherardi, who stayed under the 39.74-second mark for the first time in 40 seconds. Francesca De Mitri from Puglia came second (40.98), Cavalli third in 41.36 seconds.

A bronze medal also went to Merano walker Sara Buglisi in 15:02.40 minutes in the 3 km competition. The new Italian champion Angela Di Fabio from Abruzzo (14:23.45) and second-placed Alice Leonardi from Catania (14:57.36) stayed under 15 minutes.

This year a total of ten medals at the Italian Youth Championships The track season for track and field athletes, which was also very successful for South Tyrol this year, ends with the three medals at the U16 Italian Championships in Cles. In total, the local young athletes won ten medals in the U16, U18, U20 and U23 age groups. The sprinter Julia Viktoria Calliari and the 5000 m runner Sophia Zingerle were crowned Italian champions in the U20 age group. U18 shot putter Sofia Steinkasserer and U23 Valentina Cavalleri (400m hurdles) and Chiara Bergia (javelin) took silver, while U18 Isabel Vikoler (400m hurdles) and U23 Andreas Zagler (javelin) won bronze.
