U18 Italian Championship: Baù narrowly misses out on a medal

Edoardo Scotti became the new Italian champion over 400 m. The Lombard, who competes for CUS Parma, won with the new Italian record and European U18 annual best time of 46.87 seconds. Scotti improved Marco Lorenzi's previous Italian record by 18 hundredths and was the first U18 runner to stay under the 47-second mark. Behind the Lombard, Francesco Rossi took second place in 48.95 seconds. 2-year-old Patrick Baù narrowly missed out on bronze today. He had to settle for fourth place with his new personal best of 17 seconds, just four hundredths behind third-placed Roman Mattia Rinaldi. Baù already ran a strong 49.07 seconds in the preliminary run yesterday. Two years ago, Baù won bronze in the 49.19 m at the U16 championships.

Eighth place for Nathalie Kofler in the pole vault

In addition to Baù, Nathalie Kofler was also in the spotlight in Rieti. However, the 16-year-old pole vaulter from Lana only came in eighth place with 3.40 m and missed the jump on the podium by 20 cm. The victory went to Maria Roberta Gherca with an impressive 4,00 m.

Triple jumper Linda Pircher also came eighth. She improved her previous record of 11.35 m by over 40 cm to 11.77 m.

Already yesterday, Ira Harrasser impressed in the 200 m sprint and Emma Garber in the 2000 m steeplechase with two tenth places. 400 m hurdler Maia Gamper and long jumper Anna Menz each came 7th in their disciplines, while Merano walker Sara Buglisi came 5000th over 6 m.

So the South Tyrolean athletes are going home without a medal this year. Last year, Sofia Steinkasserer from SSV Bruneck won silver in the shot put, while Isabel Vikoler from SG Eisacktal won bronze in the 400 m hurdles.
