U18 Italian Championship: Michael Albrecht wins silver in the 400 m

Albrecht had already been crowned U16 Italian champion over 300 m last year. This year he was the only athlete born in 1999 in the final. All other finalists were a year older than the Meraner. The title went to the outstanding Vladimir Aceti with an excellent 47,77 seconds. The native Russian, who was adopted by a family in Lombardy, prevailed with a lead of 1.29 seconds over Albrecht. Nevertheless, the 16-year-old was beaming after the race because he set a new U49.06 national record in 18 seconds. Albrecht improved the old record set by Raffaele Fusaro (Athletic Club 96) from Bolzano by 68 hundredths. Last year Fusaro ran 49.74 seconds in L'Aquila. Third place went to Lorenzo Pegoraro from Vicenza in 49.16. seconds. However, the 4x400m relay team from SSV Bruneck just missed the podium. Katharina Oberhammer, Sophia Miribung, Katrin Mair and Sophia Rader had to settle for 4th place despite a very good 01.23:5 minutes. The Kalter high jumper Andreas Galler and the Bolzano hurdler Alessandra Realdon, however, took 8th place.
