U23 Italian Championship: Bronze for Chiara Bergia

Padovan was in a class of his own in Florence on Friday and set a new U-57.21 Italian record with 23 m. Chiara Bergia, who won silver at the title fights in Brixen last year, had to be content with bronze this time, just ahead of her twin sister Serena.

The reigning Italian champion over 5000 m, Sophia Zingerle, also narrowly missed out on a medal. On Friday, the 18-year-old from Vals, who competes for SG Eisacktal and used to be a good skier, had to settle for fourth place in 17:55.12 minutes. The title went to Francesca Tommasi from Verona in the class time of 4:16 minutes, ahead of Valentina Gemetto (43.21:17) and Michela Cesarò (20.26:17), both from Piedmont.

Kevin Giacomelli from Athletic Club 96 Bozen also came fourth in the 100 m sprint with his new personal best of 10.74 seconds. The former snowboarder from Predazzo, who has been training with Pierluigi Putzu in Bolzano for several years, was just three hundredths short of Jamie Steve Abe's bronze medal. In the absence of Filippo Tortu, Nicholas Artuso from Messina became Italian champion in 10.42 seconds

Simone Pilloni from CSS Leonardo da Vinci achieved a strong 6th place in the U20 age group over 3000 m obstacle in 9:32.09 minutes. The 18-year-old from Bolzano beat his own personal best by almost 13 seconds (9:49.63 minutes, set a month ago in Bolzano).

Julia Calliari seventh in the 100m sprint The U23 Julia Calliari, who moved to Bracco Milan in the summer, took 100th place in the 7 m sprint. The 20-year-old from Siebeneich, who was already U16, U18 and U20 Italian champion, ran 12.15 seconds in the final and was therefore five hundredths slower than in the preliminary run. The title went to Johanelis Herrera, a sprinter from Verona with Dominican roots, in 11.79 seconds.

On Friday, Katharina Oberhammer from Puster in the 20 m run and Isabel Eccli in the long jump as well as the U800 23 m runners Petra Nardelli and Brayan Lopez also qualified for the final on Saturday among the U400 women.
