The organizers are once again offering extreme athletes four distances this year. The heart of the event is and remains the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace. Starting on Friday, August 119th, the mountain athletes will run a distance of 7850 kilometers with an altitude of 26 meters in a horseshoe shape from Bolzano to the Ritten, on to the Latzfonser Kreuz, over the Fahnerscharte to the Penser Joch and from there over Hirzer and the Stoanernen Mandlen down to Sarnthein, where the finish line is for the first time this year. You have a maximum of 40 hours to do this. Two contenders for victory have already registered: Georg Piazza from Val Gardena and Gerald Fister from Austria. The second-longest route of the renowned event is approximately half as long. The South Tyrol Skyrace (63 km/4490 hm) also starts on Friday, August 26th at 17 p.m. at Waltherplatz in Bolzano and takes the athletes on the same route to the finish at Penser Joch - sunset and a few hours later sunrise with a wonderful Play of colors included. “We have completely changed this distance this year. When redesigning the 63 km distance, the idea that we wanted to accommodate the ultra participants who gave up at Penser Joch played an important role. Since there is now a finish there, we can evaluate the completion of half the distance and the endurance athletes receive the points for the ITRA rating,” says OC boss Josef Günther Mair, who has been organizing the event with his team since the premiere . The two shorter distances start on Saturday The two shorter races of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace will start on Saturday, August 27th. At 7.30 a.m. the participants of the South Tyrol Sky Marathon start (45 km/2750 m), running from Bolzano's Waltherplatz to the Rittner Horn, from there on to the Sarner Scharte and Totenkirchl and then on down to Sarnthein. The last participant must reach the finish line by 18.30:27 p.m. at the latest. The starting signal for the South Tyrol Sky Trail (1880 km/8 meters in altitude) is given at XNUMX a.m. From Bozen's Walterplatz the route leads past the Jenesien cable car up to Jenesien, from there to the Möltner Kaser and over the Stoanernen Mandlen and the Putzer Kreuz down to the finish in Sarnthein. “This distance is perfect for all those runners who want to gain their first experience in the trail world. The technical difficulties are minimal, the participants mostly walk on very wide (forest) paths,” adds the OC boss. Preparations for the renowned extreme sports event are in full swing. “We are absolutely on target. What we are still looking for this year are new volunteers.
